Thanks to all of you who voted to name my character. As I explained in my blog, Help Me Name a Witch, I needed a fictional name for my character who was accused of witchcraft and is based on Rich’s ninth great-grandmother.
The votes have been counted, and the winning name is:

Angelique! I like the tension created with this name that sounds so like the Seraphim and Cherubim but is a person tortured by visions and poltergeist activity. As I research my book, I will keep in mind the difficult time Angelique experienced in a new land, far from her home in France.
Now I need your help with the surname. Again, my five choices are taken from church records of actual residents of Old Quebec in the mid 1600s. What name would you vote for as Angelique’s last name?
I’m geeked, pumped, excited that you’re helping name this character! Thanks for taking the time to vote.
When I originally cast my vote, my choice was Bourdon, with Couillart as my alternate!
My sister and I have traced our trees back to Declaration days – we are in the 1770s on one tree, 1780s on another! We can truly say we are New Yorkers!!
We also have an Great Uncle who married a cousin! (2-3 generations separate the two) 😎
Bourdon got a lot of votes, Jenn. Wow, you go way back to the early days! I was born and raised in New York.
Voted! This sounds like it’s going to be an interesting book.
Thanks, Lucy. Now that I have Angelique’s first name, I can almost hear her speaking to me. I can’t wait to see how this story unfolds.
Voted for Couillart! But I can hear it in French, which is probably close to Kwee-yar.
Mas oui, mon ami! I believe Couillart would be pronounced as you said. Thanks for voting, Alyssa 🙂
My choice for last name was at the bottom of the pile. Maybe I’ll have better luck with the last name. 😉
Thanks for voting even though Marie didn’t win, Diana. As you said, maybe this time 😊
